چکیده

This research was initiated with the objective of investigating the potential of constructed wetlands covered by duckweeds and connected to the branches of Bahr Hadous drain on its salinity, and subsequently, its discharge into El-Salam canal. Primarily, literature was reviewed. Data was assembled and analysed. The water quality model QUAL2K was used in this investigation. Moreover, electrical Conductivity (EC) was selected as an indicator for salinity in this study. Investigations under Egyptian natural climate conditions showed that the salt-removal of duckweeds is first-order reaction kinetics and removal rates are 7.6, 1.6 and 0.1% for salinity 600, 1,800 and 3,300 μmhos. QUAL2K results indicated that establishing two duckweeds-wetlands in the seven branches of Bahr Hadous drain can reduce its salinity by about 20%. This can increase its mixed discharge into El-Salam Canal by about 50%.

Investigating the Hydraulic Properties and Design Criteria for the River Subsurface Intake with a porous media without cut off

Surface and subsurface water collection in small seasonal rivers is very crucial, particularly in dry seasons. In this study a type of intake is introduced which acts as a river drainage network. An experimental model of the subsurface intake was constructed and the effective parameters such as upstream discharge, installation depth, and drain intervals were evaluated. The results showed that t...

Data-driven Modeling for Water Quality Parameters Prediction of the Drainage System Associated with Lake Manzala, Egypt

Lake Manzala is the largest of the Egyptian lakes along the Mediterranean coast and the most productive for fisheries. It is located on the Eastern margin of the Nile Delta between the Damietta Branch of the River Nile and Port Said on the Suez Canal. Two main drains namely, Bahr El-Baker Drain system and Bahr Hadous Drain system flow into Manzala Lake and drain a considerable volume of drainag...

Evaluate the performance of subsurface drainage to control water level and salinity in agricultural lands of hamidieh based on RGWD and SEI

The research in the fields of irrigation and drainage network in the province Hamidieh to evaluate the performance of drainage was done in the land. For this purpose, three drainage server farm at intervals of 50, 70 and 80 meters in the area was selected. Blank observation on three drain pipes at intervals of 0.3,0.8,1.5,2.5 and 15 meters of lateral drains in the middle of the line in four row...

Numerical Simulation of Effect of Drain Pipe in Uplift Force and Exit Hydraulic Gradient in Gravity Dams

In this study, the effects of diameter and location of drain pipe in uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient in the foundation of gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, a numerical model of gravity dam foundation is simulated using finite elements method. The results indicate that drain pipe under the gravity dam reduces the uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient. Location of the d...
